The Beat the Streets Cleveland trip to Chicago was a huge success.  After arriving in Chicago on Friday, team Cleveland visited the world famous Navy Pier.  After exploring the pier, the team braved a cold and windy day and took a ride on the Seadog.

After a fun Friday evening, Saturday was all business.  The day began with a freestyle wrestling demonstration from wrestlers from Northwestern (left) followed by a motivational talk from Olympic Gold Medalist Ben Peterson (right).

In the competition, team Cleveland started strong winning their first two dual meets over Indianapolis and Milwaukee.  In the third and final dual of the day, Cleveland lost to host team Chicago.  For several wrestlers on the team, this was their first Freestyle or Greco-Roman competition (matches alternated between the two styles).

In addition to gaining valuable experience by competing, the wrestlers had fun, made new friends, and were able to represent their city.  We hope that this trip is the first of many for team Cleveland.

This trip was funded by private donations so there was no cost to the team.  We hope to continue this trend and provide more opportunities for little to no cost for the participants. To learn more about the mission of Beat the Streets Cleveland, please click here.
